reassembly

Exploration of fundamental design principles through the analysis and extraction of spaces created by interlocking components of Japanese joinery. Evolving the concept of transforming space through the disassembly and reassembly of a material cube, the perception of interior space changes with the rotation of the exterior.

Step I

Analysis of Japanese joinery and derivation of interlocking and transformative spaces.

Step II

Transfiguration of the cube into a reinterpretation of interlocking pieces. Expanded on the idea of rotational motion and the affect of the evolving interior/exterior space.
